- According to the NZS 4503:2005—Hand operated fire-fighting equipment, all types of portable extinguishers need to be tested at least once every 12 months. In environments that are deemed ‘hostile’, extinguishers need to be inspected at least once every 6 months.
- If you use the wrong extinguisher it could make matters worse, eg-water on an oil/electric fire would cause the fire to get bigger. It’s safer to make sure you use the correct one.
• Portable extinguishers must be maintained in a fully charged, operable condition and kept in their designated locations at all times when not being used. Extinguishers shall be installed on hangers, brackets, in cabinets. Portable fire extinguishers need to be mounted to the wall so that they are secure, visible, and readily accessible. It is also important to mount them in such a way that they cannot be easily moved or damaged.
- Fire extinguishers should be collected and disposed of in an environmentally sound way by us.
